Correns: the hidden organic gem of Provence

Date

Deep in the heart of the Provençal hills you will find the picturesque village of Correns, which can proudly call itself France's first organic village. In 1997, the local farmers rallied around the then mayor's idea of completely overhauling traditional farming methods. They decided to give up all chemical pesticides and artificial fertilisers and devote themselves entirely to organic production. Since then, Correns's winemakers, cheesemakers, beekeepers and herb growers have been known for their artisanal, environmentally friendly products.

Correns has a rich history dating back to the Middle Ages. Its narrow lanes, with their characteristic Provençal architecture, give the village an authentic, timeless charm.

Correns

The vineyards in and around the village mainly produce organic wines, especially rosé, so typical of Provence. Many of the winegrowers are pioneers of organic viticulture in France.

As well as tasting the delicious organic wines and strolling through the picturesque vineyards, guests can enjoy walks along the Argens river, bike rides through the surrounding countryside and discovering nearby nature reserves.

The village comes alive with cultural events and lively markets selling local, handcrafted products.

Correns gained international fame when the Hollywood couple Brad Pitt and Angelina Jolie bought the nearby Château Miraval, where they began producing their own wine. This brought the village extra fame, although it has kept much of its peaceful, unspoilt character.
