The splendour of the Grotte de Thouzon in Le Thor
Date
Discovered in 1902 while a quarry was being worked, the Grotte de Thouzon in Le Thor is a magical place that has remained intact. Its golden-yellow stalactites are the main attraction and enchant visitors. The cave stretches for around 230 metres and reveals the fossil bed of an ancient underground river.
The cave entrance appeared after a blast in the quarry, which made the discovery possible. Visitors can enter the cave with a guide and enjoy a tour of about an hour, admiring the countless delicate stalactites. What makes this cave extra special is that it is the only cave in the Vaucluse department.
