The whisky of Château du Barroux

Date

In the heart of Provence, where the scent of lavender fills the air and Mont Ventoux dominates the horizon, stands Château du Barroux. Built on rocky cliffs, this imposing castle has a history going back more than 900 years. But it is not only an architectural icon: it is also home to a unique distillery that combines local traditions with modern techniques to produce exceptional whisky.

The Château du Barroux distillery is the only one in the world making whisky from petit épeautre (einkorn) grown in Haute-Provence. Three special products are made here with care and passion.

Le Millésime, a 100% organic whisky, is made entirely from petit épeautre and reflects the essence of the region.

L'Origine combines at least 70% organic einkorn with a refined taste experience.

And then there is Engrain, a delicate eau-de-vie distilled purely from petit épeautre.

Each product is a tribute to local culture and nature, perfectly balanced and aromatically unique.

On a tour of the distillery, Fanny and Jean-Baptiste share the secrets of whisky making. They reveal the seven stages needed to create their unique spirits, from choosing grain from local farmers to distilling and ageing in carefully selected casks. The experience is not only educational but also a journey for the senses: you learn to recognise aromas, discover the subtleties of colour and texture, and taste how each step contributes to the final flavour. If you want more, there are workshops where you learn not only to taste but also to develop your own whisky recipe, and you take your own creation home with you.

The castle itself is as impressive as the whisky.

Wandering through the galleries and rooms, you discover the rich history of the place, while the terraces reward you with breathtaking views of the Dentelles de Montmirail and Mont Ventoux, surrounded by vineyards.

This medieval fortress invites you to dream of times long past, while children are free to play in the large courtyard and make up their own stories.
