Maubec is a Luberon village in the Vaucluse, with the hamlet of Coustellet and its well-known Sunday marché paysan. Among vineyards and garrigue near Cavaillon: a warm, practical base in the Parc naturel régional du Luberon.
The village has two parts: modern Maubec and historic Maubec-le-Vieux, set against the hills.
In Maubec-le-Vieux you feel you have gone back in time as you walk through the picturesque streets. At the top you will find the castle, rebuilt in 1657 on the foundations of a medieval fortress. Although the castle is not open to the public, it has a timeless grandeur. Recent restoration work has given the building new life, and from the surrounding footpaths you can enjoy wonderful views over the vineyards, olive groves and Luberon landscape.
Around Maubec there are countless walking and cycling routes through the beautiful Provençal landscape. The charming village of Coustellet is only 4 km away and is known for its Sunday farmers' market, where you can enjoy local specialities. And Cavaillon, famous for its melons and impressive Romanesque cathedral, is just a 7 km drive away and well worth a visit.
