Saignon is a medieval hilltop village on a rock near Apt, with views over the Luberon, the Ventoux and the Montagne de Lure. Low-traffic lanes, town walls and the Rocher de Bellevue: one of the finest viewpoints in the Luberon.
Saignon lies in the Vaucluse département in the Provence-Alpes-Côte d'Azur region. It is an unspoilt medieval village perched on top of a rock with a fantastic view over the Luberon range, the Montagne de Lure, Mont Ventoux and the Alpes-de-Haute-Provence.
This low-traffic little village, known for its charm, radiates calm. It is a lovely place to stroll, and the village's wealth 800 years ago sparks the curiosity of many holidaymakers.
Look out for the squares decorated with flowers and the fountain where the three roads meet, a wash house and houses with beautifully carved doors.
There is more to discover: the remains of castles, whose ruins can still be seen, the walls, the walkways and the battlements.
In the village itself there are two small restaurants we can recommend: Au Comptoir de Balthazar and Un Jardin Sur Le Toit.
In season, the local market is on Thursday evenings.
