Uchaux is a commune of scattered hamlets between Orange and Bollène, with the wooded hills of the Massif d'Uchaux, the ruins of the Castellas and its own Côtes du Rhône wine.
Uchaux lies in the north of the Vaucluse and is not a single village. The commune is a group of scattered hamlets: the town hall is in La Galle, and Les Farjons is a few kilometres away. To the north rise the wooded hills of the Massif d'Uchaux, looking towards Bollène. To the south, fields and vineyards run all the way to Orange. On a promontory of the massif stand the ruins of the Castellas, a castle that overlooked the plain and the old Via Agrippa. You can still see a pentagonal curtain wall, a keep and a great hall 32 metres long. It has been a listed historic monument since 1994. Reach it on foot or by mountain bike, in good shoes. Just below it stands the Romanesque chapel of Saint-Michel. Near the cemetery of La Galle a signposted botanical trail sets off through the woods. Taste the Côtes du Rhône Villages Massif d'Uchaux. Lavender, honey, truffles, olive oil and sheep's cheese also come from here. Cyclists will find loops of more than 40 kilometres in the massif.
