Saint-Saturnin-lès-Avignon is a lively Provençal village on the edge of Avignon, with its Place des Cafés, flower-lined lanes and a Sunday market.
Saint-Saturnin-lès-Avignon lies in the Grand Avignon area, between hills to the west and the Sorgues plain to the east. Several streams run through the village.
Its heart is the Place des Cafés with its terraces. Every Sunday morning around thirty stallholders sell local produce and crafts here. Around the square, flower-lined lanes mix painted façades with stone houses.
A parchment from 1008 already mentions a church in Saint-Saturnin. The present parish church, rebuilt after damage in the 14th century, was consecrated in 1531. At Christmas it hosts a large animated nativity scene. Avignon and Châteauneuf-du-Pape are close by.
