Mazan is a commune in the Vaucluse département, in the Provence-Alpes-Côte d'Azur region in south-eastern France.
The village of Mazan lies at the foot of Mont Ventoux and draws attention for the quality of its AOC Côtes-du-Ventoux wine. Here you can buy fruit and vegetables straight from the producers, including asparagus, strawberries, cherries, melons, apricots and peaches.
Mazan has kept part of its 12th and 14th century town walls and, from the same period, the chapel of Notre-Dame de Pareloup. The chapel is well worth a visit and houses works by the sculptor Jacques Bernus, who grew up in the area. The cemetery is also worth seeing: it is lined with stone sarcophagi from the 6th and 7th centuries, which once stood along the old road from Carpentras to Mormoiron.
Mazan has beautifully preserved buildings such as the Hôtel de Valette, the château of the Marquis de Sade, now a four-star hotel.
