More about Saint-Hippolyte-le-Graveyron

Saint-Hippolyte-le-Graveyron is a small, peaceful rural village in the Vaucluse with fewer than 200 inhabitants. It lies in the plain north of Carpentras, at the foot of the Graveyron hill, between the Dentelles de Montmirail and Mont Ventoux. There is no real village centre: the mairie, the church and a wayside cross form its heart, and the houses are scattered among vineyards and olive trees. The parish church of Saint-Hippolyte was built in 1830. The name Graveyron comes from the hill above the village: in Occitan, 'graveiron' means gravel or scree. The commune has officially carried this name only since 1986. Two walking trails take you into the Graveyron massif, past centuries-old olive groves and Mediterranean scrub, with lovely views of the Dentelles and Mont Ventoux. On top of the hill, an orientation table looks out over the whole Comtat Venaissin. The village lives from farming: cherries, muscat du Ventoux table grapes and AOC Ventoux wine. Ideal for real peace and quiet, with Carpentras and the Dentelles close by.
